Personal Injury
(Including Auto Accidents)
I began taking on Personal Injury cases in 1989, when I was working for a large local firm. I worked in the Personal Injury section of the firm, handling major and complex products liability cases for seriously injured clients. My clients included individuals who, because of the negligence of others, were paralyzed, partially blinded, lost partial or total use of arms or legs, were in a permanent vegetative state, and suffered from asbestosis and mesothelioma -- as well as representing the bereaved families of deceased individuals. We successfully recovered millions of dollars for these clients (based on the individual facts of each case).
I was fortunate, as a young attorney at the firm, to work with and learn from some of the best lawyers in the personal injury field, and we went up against top defense attorneys. Often there were multiple defense attorneys involved on the other side of our cases because of the complexity of the facts, and the number of defendants we filed suit against. During my time at the firm, I also attended a week-long intensive trial training program in Denver, Colorado, put on by the American Trial Lawyers Association.
More recently, during 2014 through 2017, a West Virginia attorney and I represented a husband whose wife had died during a medical procedure. The medical malpractice case we pursued on behalf of the family was challenging and proceeded almost to trial in state court before being moved to federal court for another year of work and ultimately a week-long trial.
In addition, to my experience in traditional personal injury cases representing seriously injured individuals and the families of those killed by the negligence of others, I have also continuously for over 30 years represented injured workers. The field of workers compensation law is a specialize field of personal injury law, and handling a large number of these cases has expanded my experience even further.
While it is not the focus of my solo practice, I continue to accept select Personal Injury cases including those involving automobile accidents. and would be happy to consider your case and potentially put my broad experience to work for you.
Lawyers who “specialize” in personal injury and automobile cases usually have trials only a couple of times a month, or less, particularly if the law firm is essentially a “settlement mill.” Half my time, however, is spent representing clients in criminal and traffic cases. This often gets me in court several times a week, so I’ve been able to hone my trial skills, cross-examining witnesses, presenting evidence, and arguing cases to the court.
